Tartan Day Raises $500.00 For The Sick Kids Foundation

Tartan Day Raises $500.00 for the Sick Kids Foundation.

Unfortunately Tartan Day only raised $500.00 for Sick Kids, which was a huge drop in last years figure of $4000.00. This years Tartan Day Dance made a loss due to having to pay for a venue and for a significant drop in numbers compared to 2012. Many Scottish organizations decided that they would hold their own Tartan Day events and I believe this is why the numbers fell by over a 100. The $500.00 raised was donated by the Sons of Scotland who were one of our sponsors. Tartan Events Limited picked up all the losses on the night and provided free sound and lighting and event promotion.

I hope that we can find more sponsors for next year and that the Scottish communities and organizations can all pull together to make Tartan Day a big event in Toronto. If you know of any companies interested in providing a venue or sponsorship please send an email to dale@tartanevents.ca

The Tartan Day Dance at Currie Hall

Tartan Day Dance at Currie Hall

This years event was held at Currie Hall, which had a great dance floor although was a smaller venue from last year. Everyone had a great time with performances from the RSCDS Children and Adult demo team and Highland dancing from the Nancy Richards School of Highland Dancers.

Tartan Day at the CP24 Studio's

CP24 Breakfast Show 2013

I was once again invited to come down to the CP24 Studio's on Queen Street to promote Tartan Day 2013. It was a great morning and met with the same team from last years Breakfast Show; CP24 Producer, Milan Zelovic and Presenters, Pooja Handa, Gurdeep Ahluwalia and Jamie Gutfreund.

Moira Korus from the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society kindly organized children to perform a demonstration dance on the show. They all did a fabulous job and coped with dancing in the cold temperatures.

The 48th Highlander Pipes and Drums also kindly agreed to performed on the show - luckily the the cold temperatures didn't affect the bagpipes, although I would imagine the players were very cold.

You can watch the entire CP24 Breakfast Show on Youtube by going to this link

Why do we look for a free venue for Tartan Day.

Tartan Day is about celebrating our Scottish heritage and making it accessible to the majority of people in Toronto. Most of the venue's in Toronto charge between $3000 and up to $70,000 and normally have a minimum door spend. Hiring these venues would mean increasing your ticket from $25 to $70+ and this would result in less people being able to participate.
We need your help in breaking last years total fundraising of $4000.00.
Tell your friends about Tartan Day, Tell your work mates about Tartan Day, Tell your Facebook and Twitter accounts Tartan Day or just join us for a fun evening of dancing.

Many thanks to the Sons of Scotland who are once again helping to sponsor Tartan Day.

Hey Fellow Tartan Day Supports,

This has been the most difficult Tartan Day event ever to organize! Why? Because no-one was prepared to give us some event space free of charge. It has been my goal to make the Tartan Day Dance accessible to everyone in the GTA without a huge admission tag. There were 3 halls which were available at a reasonable rate, so Currie Hall was chosen for this years Tartan Day.

Currie Hall is part of the Canadian National Ballet School and formerly known as the Quaker Meeting House. The hall has been fully restored with a great wooden dance floor.

Limited tickets are now on sale, but you will have to be quick as there are only 230.
